Mindfulness

What is mindfullness ?

Mindfulness is the ability to be aware of our surroundings and what we are actually doing and so not be overly affected or overwhelmed by things that are out of our control. Its about living for the moment and not thinking too much about the past or future.

We cant change the past and to some extent we cant control the future so we spend alot of time and energy worrying about it rather than focusing on the present. This is what mindfulness involves, being more concerned with the present and enjoying the simple things in life.

The mind naturally thinks and analyses things and will seek new things to think about. We have all laid in bed trying to get to sleep but unable to stop thinking about things. Mindfulness practices retraining your mind to concentrate on the present. In effect its learning to control your mind.

Studies have shown many benefits of practicing mindfulness. These include

Improving cognitive ability and slowing brain aging
Reducing stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms
Better sleep
Increasing sense of well-being
Pain management
Improved quality of life for those with chronic conditions
